Hi APIE friends,
Thank you to those who were able to attend the BC Employees of Color Meet and Greet on Sept 26. It was a huge success as over 50 employees from various departments on campus talked, ate, and laughed with one another. Huge thanks to Donna Miguel, Beabe Akpojovwo, and Sayumi Irey and everyone that was involved in making this event happen. It was unanimous that we should have a meet and greet at least quarterly.
Over 20 API new friends signed up to receive news/events about our club. We also need to support our student group: The Asian and Pacific Islander Student Association (APISA) club here on campus. The students meet on Thursdays 12:30-1:30, in C103.
One of our group’s purpose is to share information about upcoming professional development opportunities. I would like to share a couple of conferences that I am aware of:
- 21st annual Faculty and Staff of Color Conference, Nov. 2-4, 2016 in Spokane, WA $300 registration fee + travel and lodging expenses. For more info: https://www.regonline.com/builder/site/default.aspx?EventID=1784303
- 2016 UNITE Summit (Southeast Asian Education Summit), Sat, Oct. 29, 2016 at Highline College. Free registration. More info on the upcoming events page and https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdkbAT1db-ym3iW1fb43pKJTY-m4l-kN-2_SR1kC0MFdCjhCg/viewform?c=0&w=1. They are looking for volunteers, so contact them soon!
Do you know of any upcoming professional development opportunities? If so, please let us know so we can get the word out. Our APIE affinity group is a great place to network, make new friends, find a mentor or discuss professional development opportunities. Please invite others to join! As the saying goes “the more the merrier.” We are always looking for volunteers to update the webpage or host a party/meeting at their house.
