Even though you may know that none of your students use screen readers, there is no way to tell if anyone visiting our web site is using one.\u00a0 Some of your students, or visitors to the site\u00a0may be color blind or have other visual issues.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #315591\">A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND TO MAKE YOUR SYLLABUS MORE ADA COMPLIANT<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Underlining, bolding, Italics should be used sparingly or not at all.<\/li>\n<li>Use a font that is easily read such as <strong><span style=\"color: #8f551b\">Arial<\/span><\/strong> or <strong><span style=\"color: #8f551b\">MS Sans Serif<\/span><\/strong>, stay away from fancy fonts.<\/li>\n<li>Color should not be used to emphasize something because of the issues with colorblindness &#8211; <span style=\"color: #8f551b\">especially red<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>For screen readers to work properly the headings should be one font size away from the content.\u00a0 So if a heading is 14 font, the content should be 12 font.<\/li>\n<li>Do not use textboxes, screen readers view them as <span style=\"color: #8f551b\">nothing is inside of them<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Be careful about tables, if not set up properly, the information the screen reader may not be able to read the content as written.\u00a0 Read the info on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/drc\/faculty\/creating-accessible-documents-word-and-pdfs\/\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">DRC web site<\/span><\/u><u> <\/u><\/a>to set up a table properly.<\/li>\n<li>Add alternate text for Images, or remove them altogether.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Webaim.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1906\" src=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/09\/Webaim-300x79.png\" alt=\"Webaim.com logo\" width=\"300\" height=\"79\" \/><\/a>**<span style=\"color: #245cbd\">Jim Dicus<\/span> is the Instructional Designer from eLearning, he shared with me that color is not bad, only that using color to emphasize something affects those with color blindness.\u00a0 A reference he shared with me is from <a href=\"http:\/\/webaim.org\/articles\/visual\/colorblind\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">Webaim<\/span><\/u><\/a>.\u00a0 If you visit the site, you will be able to get\u00a0a little deeper into colorblindness and visual issues.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">As <strong><span style=\"color: #245cbd\">Seda<\/span> <span style=\"color: #245cbd\">Markarova<\/span><\/strong> and I (<span style=\"color: #245cbd\">Janis<\/span>) receive all syllabi for posting, we do scan through them.\u00a0 If\u00a0one of us\u00a0sees incorrect office locations, or out of date links,\u00a0we do\u00a0our best to notify instructors so they can change the info on their end.\u00a0 It is\u00a0highly encouraged to post your syllabus in your CANVAS class site.\u00a0 All that is needed is for you to mark your syllabus public, then send\u00a0us the link.\u00a0 Any changes to your syllabus can be easily done in CANVAS and there is no need to send\u00a0 a Word, or PDF file.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0A good resource for creating ADA accessible documents is located on the Bellevue College DRC web site.
