{"id":1994,"date":"2016-10-25T09:32:00","date_gmt":"2016-10-25T16:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/artsandhumanities\/?page_id=1994"},"modified":"2016-10-25T09:53:44","modified_gmt":"2016-10-25T16:53:44","slug":"online-hate-grps","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/artsandhumanities\/online-hate-grps\/","title":{"rendered":"Online Hate Groups Lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/10\/Hate.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1995\" src=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/10\/Hate.png\" alt=\"Stop sign\" width=\"178\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #2b469e\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000\">TODAY!<\/span> YOU ARE INVITED<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>to join Communication Studies Faculty, <strong><span style=\"color: #8c6a37\">Michael Korolenko<\/span><\/strong>, as he presents his lecture of &#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #808080\">ONLINE HATE.<\/span><\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0 Michael will present his lecture\u00a0 with images and\u00a0discussion\u00a0on why there are so many of them, the danger they pose and an explanation of their ideologies.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #8c6a37\">Room D106\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #8c6a37\">Wednesday, October 26th\u00a0 | 11:30 am\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>NOW, MORE THAN EVER,\u00a0THIS SUBJECT NEEDS TO BE DISCUSSED<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since the mid-1990s, online hate groups have proliferated on the web.\u00a0 Where, before <a href=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/10\/Hate-Speech.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1996\" src=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/10\/Hate-Speech-284x300.png\" alt=\"Hate speech is not free speech\" width=\"180\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a>the advent of the web, small clusters of hate groups existed, now they can form groups that number in the hundreds of thousands online.\u00a0 Aryan Nations, Stormfront, the Ku Klux Klan and, now the alt.right all have one thing in common \u2013 a visceral hatred of people who are African American, Hispanic \u2013 (actually all people of color), Muslim and Jewish.\u00a0 They want a \u201cWhite Christian Nation\u201d, a homeland for \u201cpure Aryan races\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/10\/Computer_hate.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1997\" src=\"\/\/commons.bellevuecollege.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/50\/2016\/10\/Computer_hate-300x225.png\" alt=\"Picture of lab top computer broken down the middle\" width=\"175\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a>There are now nearly <strong><span style=\"color: #8c6a37\">900 such groups online<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t even counting the \u201ctrolls\u201d who anonymously and personally attack people for their race, religion, or political beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Hope to see you there!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TODAY!
