\"Demo<\/a>\u2666 Wednesday, March 9 –<\/span> BC\u2019s Library Media Center and Physical Education Department<\/span><\/strong> are co-hosting a demonstration of rowing technique <\/strong><\/span>in front of the LMC.\u00a0 Watch Philosophy\u2019s Mark<\/span> \u201cNature Boy\u201d<\/span> Storey<\/span><\/strong><\/strong> and Life Science\u2019s Heidi<\/span> \u201cBat Girl\u201d<\/span> Richter<\/span><\/strong><\/strong> show how not to rip out one\u2019s back or have a heart attack while enjoying some serious aerobic exercise.\u00a0 This mini event promotes BC Read\u2019s book for this year: The Boys in the Boat<\/span><\/strong><\/em>, by Daniel James Brown. \"Workshops\"<\/a>\u2666<\/span> NewsTalk with Ana<\/u>: A Reading Skills Workshop for English Language Learners \u2013<\/span> Every Wednesday 4:30-5:30 from <\/span><\/strong>1\/20\/16 to 3\/16\/16<\/span>
\n<\/strong>NewsTalk<\/strong><\/span> is a workshop series for ELL<\/strong><\/strong><\/span> students where they can learn different reading skills<\/strong> like paraphrasing and finding the main idea.\u00a0 Together, we will then practice applying these skills to our news stories.\u00a0 The students can also develop their speaking skills <\/strong>by contributing to the discussions as they share their thoughts and reactions to each story with the group.\u00a0 Ask the instructors and\/or tutors for more information!\u00a0 Hope to see you there!<\/p>\n

\u2666 <\/strong><\/span>Summarizing Your Reading<\/u><\/strong><\/a> \u2013 Saturday, March 5. 1:00-3:00 pm in D204 <\/strong><\/strong>Do you get overwhelmed by too much information in your class readings?\u00a0 When you start to summarize, all words disappear from your mind?\u00a0 Do you have no idea how to \u201csay it in your own words,\u201d so you copy random sentences from the text, hoping it\u2019s enough?\u00a0 You are not alone!\u00a0 This workshop gives tips on finding the important information to put in a summary.\u00a0 Effective summarizing can help you understand more and remember concepts better.\u00a0 Come and practice this valuable skill during this workshop.<\/p>\n
