Hi and thank you for signing up for our adventure! I am\u00a0<\/em>Nancy Lane<\/em><\/strong>, adjunct professor at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington<\/a>. I consider myself a facilitator here to guide students and to learn more myself. \u00a0I teach Nutrition, Biology, and Environmental Science classes in the Science Division. \u00a0All my life I’ve really liked science and nature. One of my first memories is of me in the woods behind our house just sitting on a little log that had fallen down. Just sitting and looking and listening. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I began my academic career right here at Bellevue College as a transfer student that moved on to the University of Washington<\/a> for my B.S. and then the University of South Florida<\/a> for my M.S. \u00a0I studied chemical ecology under Dr. John Romeo<\/a>. Along with teaching, I have had the opportunity to do some really interesting work. \u00a0Around the country I’ve evaluated the risk<\/a> of chemicals and radionuclides on human health and the environment. \u00a0I also performed chromosome analysis at the University of South Florida Medical Center<\/a>, University of Washington, and Loyola University Medical Center<\/a> and am “Path certified” in chromosome analysis, which means I’ve observed fascinating changes in human DNA with different diseases. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have to ask you, have you seen the film Chasing Corals<\/a> on Netflix? \u00a0I watched it and felt I just had to do something about the loss of corals and coral reefs during my lifetime. \u00a0The College and Science Division have been incredibly supportive. \u00a0I have a little research aquarium, a Special Topics course in Ocean Resilience – the ability of organisms and the ocean to recover in the face of adverse change. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
