When I returned to teaching in 2014 I knew I wanted to do some sort of research, but what do you do? \u00a0This idea rumbled in the back of my mind for awhile as I reacquainted myself with the Pacific Northwest and Bellevue College. \u00a0Then during the summer of 2017 I watched the film “Chasing Corals<\/a>” on Netflix. \u00a0<\/em>It was emotional for me. \u00a0Watch it if you haven’t! \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

It was shocking for me to learn that 90% of the coral reefs in the Florida Keys had disappeared during my lifetime. \u00a0I grew up in Orlando, Florida and went to graduate school at USF in Tampa, Florida. \u00a0I simply could not believe this had happened. \u00a0I knew then, that I had to focus my work on corals and coral reefs. \u00a0In the process I am learning\u00a0<\/em>much and\u00a0meeting many new people. \u00a0The photo on this page is by Laura James<\/a>, Beneath the Looking Glass, LLC, Cabo Pulmo Shore, Baja California Sur<\/i><\/p>\n

You might not know this but we\u00a0do have corals up here\u00a0\u2013\u00a0cold water coral communities deep down and mostly soft corals in Puget Sound.\u00a0 And now, at Bellevue College, we have coral growing to enhance the learning experience of our students.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0
