Thursday, October 29 in the Faculty Commons at 1:30, we’ll be discussing chapter 10 of my Introduction to Philosophy, “Right Action.” This is the chapter where we cover utilitarianism, Kant’s respect for persons and other approaches good action in ethical theory. I hope the chapter title doesn’t sound stern or stuffy. I intended it as a play on a component of the Buddhist 8 fold path and a particularly catchy Franz Ferdinand tune. Student’s might be more likely to get the later, but still, it might help to link the video:

Is morality grounded in fundamental objective values? Or is it grounded in our moral emotions and sentiments? Or is morality merely a matter of social convention? These are the central questions of Metaethics and we’ll take them up in the Faculty Commons on Thursday, October 15 at 1:30. Click here to read the chapter that will be covered. Hope to see you there!! – Russ
