• NOV. 8, Bellevue College will have an official celebration of NATIONAL FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT DAY.
  The purpose of this national event is to celebrate the presence of First-Generation College students, faculty and staff at colleges and
  universities in the U.S.  Bellevue College will be having a series of activities on this day, one of which includes faculty, staff, and
  students wearing buttons stating “I am a First-Generation College Student” or “I support First-Generation College Students.”  Wearing
  these buttons will showcase the success of those faculty and staff who were first-generation college students while also supporting
  those BC students who are first-generation. 

**Buttons will be available at the front desk area in R230 NOV 4-8.  OTHER ACTIVIES on NOV 8 will include a table in the cafeteria which will feature stories of success from first-generation faculty and staff, distribution of buttons to students, light refreshments, and a photo booth

  Suggested items: easy snacks i.e. raisins, apple sauce, diced peaches, or pears (in six-pack package), nuts, pop tarts, pop corn, granola/protein bars, peanut butter & Jelly, instant oatmeal, Cup-O-Noodles, crackers, ready to eat food items (w/pop tops) soups, spaghetti, ravioli, beefaroni, Lasagna, Mac and Cheese.  Any food item is accepted as long as the food item is in its original package.
  
  **The department with the most food items will win a trophy.  Student Programs took the title away from us last year, let’s all do what we
  can do get the winning title back.**

FRIENDLY REMINDER OF SCENT-FREE POLICY

• In response to health concerns, Arts & Humanities  has developed a Scent-Free Policy.  Scented products such as hairspray, hand lotion, perfume and deodorant can trigger reactions such as respiratory distress and headaches.  Instructors, students, staff and visitors are asked to not use these products when visiting the A&H office.  Arts & Humanities at Bellevue College is a Scent-free environment.  Remember, what seems like a light application to you can bring on
  a situation where someone is put into serious distress.  Please be mindful.  The biggest culprit is “perfume.”  Please read more.
  
  

PUBLICATION NEWS

• English instructor, Dan Tremaglio, had three short stories published over the summer. “Culminating in Coconut Water” came out in Flash Fiction Magazine, “Give & Take” was reprinted in the anthology The Real Jazz Baby by Reflex Press, and “0-1” ran in 101 Words.  Congratulations Dan!
